Introduction to Guitar
I wanted to introduce the kids to a wide range of instruments. Even if it just meant holding an instrument and touching it.
You can see from this video, that even the act of being able to touch a guitar was a real treat for them. Some of the looks on their faces are priceless.
Using the donation money I managed to buy 3 guitars for the school (I found one shop where they were amazingly cheap – around AUD100 each) but they sounded great. My intention is that even after I leave, the school would have a basic stock of these kinds of instruments so that should another volunteer turn up, or should the school be able to afford a music teacher, (or should I return!) then having some guitars and other instruments immediately available would be very useful.
(In fact one of my friends – Lachlan may be turning up for a few days later this year – I’m sure he’ll put the guitars to good use).
Most of these kids have never held a guitar before, but the finger work some of them are doing is amazing – and that’s just from watching and copying me for a few minutes. I have no doubt that after a few months of guitar classes some of these kids would be amazing.
The books at the beginning of the video are part of my personal library that I brought with me to Brazil.
If you actually click on the video below where it says “You Tube” it will open a new window with a much larger player. The video is in High Definition – so click that little HD button for maximum enjoyment!
Paul,
I am very happy to see my guitar in action with you.
Well done!
