Donation Money
I’ve been overwhelmed at the response of people who have donated money. Thank you all so much – it’s an absolute blessing. As I write this I’ve raised AUD3,700. I assure you that buys a lot of instruments here.
Some examples…
I can buy enough kids berimbaus for a class of 25 for AUD280.
10 children sized tambourines cost AUD65.
15 cowbells cost AUD200.
At this rate you can see that several thousand dollars buys a lot of instruments!
Many of the instruments I’ve bought are actually significant to Brazil, and this is vital as the kids get to experience and learn to play instruments that are part of their own culture. These include:
the berimbau – well that one can only be described by the video on the other page.
the agogo – like a two-tone cow bell.
the pandeiro – pretty much what we would call a tambourine in English
the reco-reco – a wooden tube with serrations that you can make a scraping kind of sound on.
If anyone still feels the urge to donate, any contributions will be gladly received. I assure you the school is always under funded in many ways, so receiving too much money wont be a problem. Any money received will be used 100% for either (a) musical instruments or (b) books and other vital education material.
